A lamp that moves with the rhythms of everyday life, made for homes in constant motion.
BACKGROUND & BRIEF
Living room lighting for families with young children needs to do more than just create a cozy atmosphere.
There is a need to direct the light for tasks like helping with homework on the sofa — no matter where you choose to sit.
That’s why the lighting must be adjustable, directional, and easy to move.
THE RESULT
The result is Glid, a retro inspired lamp designed with smart, simple and cost efficient solutions to keep production costs low.

The lampshade is available in neutral and muted color options including grey, brown, green, and orange-yellow.

CONSTRUCTION & COMPONENTS
Glid consists of a polished aluminum rod, an injection molded track mount, an E14 socket, a ribbed glass lampshade, and a wing nut that secures the lamp to the track while allowing it to tilt and slide sideways.
RESEARCH
Based on the needs identified during the research phase, I developed a lamp concept mounted on a track system.
The track allows the lamp to slide sideways or vertically above the sofa.
The track and mounting bracket also enable the lamp to tilt, making it possible to direct the light where it’s needed for example, to support reading or doing homework.
PROTOTYPE & FUNCTIONAL MODEL
A functional model was built using a shade, track, track mount, and light source to evaluate, test, and demonstrate the lamp’s functionality.
