Mobile home accessory
Applied design project in collaboration with Scapa Inter - 2024
As society grows older, more people need the right kind of support to stay comfortable at home. Commissioned by Scapa Inter, this project set out to design a user centered home accessory that embodies longevity and care.
The brief, titled Scapa Längre, focused on creating furniture and objects that remain part of everyday life as needs evolve over time. Through thoughtful material choices and smart, sustainable solutions, the aim was to make daily routines easier and more dignified as age or physical limitations gradually change how we live.
The project began with interviews involving physiotherapists, chiropractors, elderly care professionals, people with disabilities, and other relevant user groups.
A visit to the production facility provided valuable insight into the manufacturing process and the framework within which we needed to operate.
Together, these steps offered a deeper understanding of the needs that arise through natural aging and physical limitations.
Stödja is a mobile support accessory for the sofa and the bed.
It features an MDF core wrapped in medium-firm foam, covered with a removable fabric, and finished with leather loops at each end.
The loops allow multiple units to be connected and arranged to provide the right kind of support, helping users regain comfort, confidence, and independence as the body changes.
Its modular design offers both extra stability when sitting and reliable assistance when getting up from the sofa or bed.
The included accessory turns the loop into a stable point to hold onto when getting up.
